Havelock Island is one of the islands in the Ritchie’s Archipelago. When planning a trip to the Andaman Islands, your friends, travel experts, or agents will always suggest including Havelock Island in your plan. Almost every Andaman tour package from any travel agency includes this place.
Why? Because this island alone is enough to show how beautiful and worthy your Andaman trip can be.
This is what an island trip should feel like vibing on the beach with your loved ones, enjoying water sports like jet skiing, boat rides just like we see in the movies, and scuba diving to watch and even touch beautiful sea creatures like turtles, Nemo fish, and baby sharks.
All of this is found in Havelock Island. There are non-crowded beaches for peaceful relaxation, famous beaches for swimming and adventure water sports, and scenic beaches to explore rich marine life.
Whether you are a nature lover, a honeymoon couple, or an adventure seeker, Havelock Island has something for everyone.
Radhanagar Beach was once rated as “Asia’s Best Beach” by Time Magazine. It is also Blue Flag certified for cleanliness and eco-tourism, which proves how well this beach is maintained and environmentally friendly. This beach is perfect for enjoying the sunset, playing beach games, and swimming safely in the clear waters. It is ideal for families, couples, and even solo travelers looking for a peaceful and beautiful place. Keep in mind, no water sports are allowed here. If you want adventure activities, you can head to Elephant Beach. Swimming is allowed only from 6 AM to 5 PM. After that, swimming is not allowed due to safety concerns, as the waves and sea currents become strong.
Nemo Reef is located on Havelock Island, and it is an ideal place for a beginner to try snorkeling. The waters are calm and shallow, making it a safe location for those who do not swim very well. The fish are plentiful, and you can see many different varieties of fish, including clownfish (Nemo), and with great visibility, it is a great underwater experience. There are guided tours to help you.
Elephant Beach Reef provides a fun snorkeling experience with a balance of adventure and beauty. The reef is a little deeper than Nemo Reef, which is ideal if you are looking for a little more thrill. The large patches of coral reef, many schools of tropical fish, and the pristine waters are a wonderful opportunity.
If you want a tropical adventure with beach, Seduction Point is a great snorkeling location. Beautiful clear waters and you’ll be able to observe large fish mixed in with colorful corals. Since it’s so secluded, you’re not in a rush trying to beat the crowds and back under water! Very good for someone who wanted to experience something a little more adventurous, fun underwater experience!
The Wall is a deep snorkeling site where the sea drops off like a wall which is great for seeing large sea animals and hard to find fish. The water is very clear and as you look down, the view seems to go on forever. This site is really for people who are looking for a new and exciting underwater experience. Not for beginners, it is very fitting for confident snorkelers.
Mac Point also has nice calm and still water and is perfect if you are looking for a peaceful swim and fun snorkeling. It’s also one of the few places you might spot a dugong, also known as a sea cow. The coral is brilliant, with colorful fish swimming closely. It’s safe and quiet, perfect for the more timid snorkeler or someone looking to not get smashed by waves
Aquarium is a shallow and peaceful snorkeling place with lots of colorful fish and soft corals. It’s called Aquarium because the sea here looks like a big glass tank full of life. The water is clear and safe, making it easy for beginners. It’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the sea underwater.
Snorkeling is one of the safest and most fun activities out there, especially for families and children. The best part is, you don’t even need to know how to swim. Snorkeling is primarily developed to keep non-swimmers and people from questioning any type of adventure-like scuba diving, and the waters are so shallow (1 – 2 meters deep) you can sometimes walk in them. If you snorkel you can get very close to some pretty cool creatures like baby sharks, turtles, clown fish (Nemo), and many more. They are harmless and friendly. Sometimes you can even touch them and feel them! You need very little gear, a snorkel, a mask, and a life jacket. The way the mask works is you have a pipe protruding above water, then you keep your head underwater where its comfortable and breathe through the pipe. The water is very clean and clear so you can stare in peace watching colorful fishes and coral reefs.
Havelock has one of the best places for snorkeling as the sea water is very clean and clear. The light flows through the water quickly, and you can probably even see the bottom of the ocean with just your eyes. Even if you don’t know swimming, no worries, there are lots of shallow areas you can stand up in easily and walk. These shallow areas are perfect for beginners or for those who cannot swim. The environment is very safe. There are always trained professionals at all of the snorkeling spots to supervise and support you. The majority of the people coming to the snorkeling spots are families, so there is no need to feel worried or uncomfortable. It is a nice peaceful and friendly place to have a snorkeling experience.
Elephant Beach is one of the most well-known attractions on Havelock Island and has every reason to be. The clear water, plentiful coral reefs and various water sport. The shallow reefs are great for snorkeling for people of all abilities, even beginners and non-swimmers. Out of all the beaches in Havelock, Elephant beach is the best for water related activities. The beach is flanked by thick tropical forest and beautiful coastline making it an exciting yet relaxing location. No matter if you are with family, friends or solo, you will most definitely enjoy your time at Elephant Beach.
The bioluminescence effect at Elephant Beach in Havelock Island, typically appears late at night, around 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM when it is dark and the water is calm. This bioluminescence is usually best seen on nights that are devoid of the moon, or on dark moon nights, and the best time for seeing this bioluminescence is from Nov to Feb when the weather is dry, with a clear sky, and the sea is less disturbed.
